Organised biennially by Opera Europa (a federation of over fifty European opera houses) and Camerata Nuova, The European Opera Director’s Prize seeks to support and nurture Europe’s exciting new production teams.
Out of forty-five concepts and seventy-three entrants from eight countries, Orpha Phelan and Leslie Travers were two of the six finalists. They were awarded second prize by the jury which consisted of Marc Clémeur [Director, Flemish Opera, Ghent], Dr Manfred Beilharz [Director, Hesse State Theatre, Wiesbaden], Armin Kretschmar [Founder and Chairman of Camerata Nuova] and Nicholas Snowman [Director General, Opéra National du Rhin]
